This was an interesting contrast to the Clonakilla Shiraz Viognier that I had recently. A more rustic and weathered style of shiraz.
Medium red. Wax, ginger, dried leaf nose. There is something slightly medicinal and leathery about this. It is held together by a fine thread of acidity. There is a trace of rust and metal before an inky finish. The tannins are fine and drying though again with a slight medicinal character.
Very good.
Drink now - 2009.
17/20 (90/100).
Post script: I tried this again on Christmas day (2007) and it is very similar. Softened, loose, and relaxed. Rather than add another almost identical tasting note, I have merely updated the photo and added this footnote.

This is my favourite ever BP. Bar none. This one does not look like a great showing.

GW,
This is the 3rd one I have tried in the last 18 months, still to strike a really impressive one. If you make it to Perth before I finish the rest, I'll try one with you.
Orrite. Deal. I'll bring one of mine too. We can have a 99 BP fest. When two is not enough.
