Isole e Olena Chianti Classico 2004
Italy. 13% alcohol. Sealed with cork.
Chianti - I have had a dozen, or so, over the last year. They do have a certain sameness and simple charm to them, better with food than on their own, most having at least a trace of brettanomyces, and for all I would suggest drinking sooner rather than later. Despite these concerns, I must say, the Isole e Olena is a good example of what a very good Chianti Classico can offer.
Cherry, sarsaparilla and hint of animal on the nose. Flavour packed wine, which has a lively midpalate fizz (perceived rather than actual) and kick. Good acidity, well structured, tannic and drying.
Very good.
17.2/20 (92/100).
Drink now - 2009.
