Quartz Reef Pinot Noir 2002
Central Otago, New Zealand. 14% alcohol. Screwcap. Approx $A45.
Medium red. Transient stewed raspberry and plum, before heady, alcoholic, wooden and spiced nose. There is a trace of mushroom and citrus peel sharpness. Rich and bold in the mouth, again spice and oak feature. There is a sensation of ash, char and sap from middle to end. The tannins are fine though again sappy. Bold and warming.
Solid, but to me a little big footed and clumsy.
Very good.
16.8/20 (88/100).
Drink now - 2010.

Sounds like a really good Pinot. I wonder if I can get a hold of it here in the States? I will have to try. I have reviewed quite a few California, Oregon and New Zealand Pinot at my blog. Check it out.
Cheers!
