Dourthe No.1 2005

Bordeaux, France. Diam. 12% alcohol. Approx $A20.

To begin, this seems somewhat attenuated, especially, when compared to its New Zealand cousins. The nose is less exuberant (more smoke, lemon and green bean than gooseberry) and thankfully less feline. In the mouth, it seems more weighty than the stated 12%, perhaps it is the phenolics creating the illusion. It has fine mineral like acidity and varietal cut and thrust, and though there is a suggestion of sweetness, it is really only a homeopathic vibration.

Very good.
15.5/20 (85/100).
Drink now - 2009.

Ed, I just broke a Riedel. This is the third time now. How do you clean yours? It's hard getting cloth inside such a deep and narrow glass, polishing so to remove all marks.

BTW, do you have any good glass cleaning detergent to recommend? My decanter it starting to look quite stained...

Sigh... it is hard work being a winoholic...

Sounds expensive and potentially dangerous!

I tend not to bother too much about wine stains, so don't have many personal tips about cleaning!

Though I would recommend not cleaning when under the influence :) Secondly - detergent is a bit of a no no - if for no other reason than residue the next time you drink. Very hot water is what I tend to use, and then I let things drip dry.

I've heard denture cleaning pills can be used for decanters. Though again it is not something I have particularly bothered with.

Cheers.
