Moet & Chandon Rosé Imperial NV

France. 35% Chardonnay, 60% Pinot Noir, 5% Pinot Meunier. 200ml bottle (somewhere between a piccolo and a chopine). Approx $A25. If I have deciphered the codes correctly, I think this was bottled on the 112 day of 2006.

Despite thinking and behaving like a cantankerous old fart, I am prone to buying alcohol in cute bottles and bright packaging.

This is like a kiss on the cheek. Unlikely to offend or satisfy anyone. Salmon pink with an atypical aldehyde nose and bright acidity. Notable and slightly awkward citrus peel bitterness, though in its favour it remains tight and linear.

Good.
87.
Now.

Kiss on the cheek... love that analogy Edward... Perhaps you need to start a new rating system...

- barely a graze
- just a peck
- smeared my lipstick
- lost my tonsils

:)

I'd buy it just for the packaging.

I love pink wine... it makes me happy... (please note, that I did not say blush...)

Hi Edward

'A kiss on the cheek' is a great analogy, though I'm a bit disappointed it wasn't a bit more passionate as I've got a bottle I was planning to pop next weekend for the 'opening' of our new BBQ.

Cheers
Andrew

Ed, how do you decipher the code?

I bought a full bottle of Bill Salmon the other day :-) Had to compensate for Balthazar.

At first I said that the Bill Sal was the best NV, but now I might revert to Veuve being the best NV. What do you think is the best NV? (Under $100, of course!)

Matt,

I like the idea, perhaps I should use it for bubbles from now on. Being a nerd, I will need 5 tiers (Maybe - an air kiss from a stranger, a kiss on the cheek from a relative. . .)

Barbara,

I'm proud that I managed to only by one bottle. Must be getting even more cantankerous than usual :)

Gretchen,

Me too. I still think Fosters Pink is the prettiest shade of pink, even though it seems slightly unnatural. Is a pink Bellini too much?

Andrew,

I wonder if my half bottle was slightly oxidized? Will look out for a tasting note. Where will you BBQ in HK?

Phil,

The cork should have an array of numbers. Should be able to work out year and day or month or bottling.
Depending on your definition of NV I think Krug is the best by far. Though even a half bottle is over $100 in Aus. . . I quite like Lansons (think fresh granny smith apples).

Phil,

You just need misplaced priorities and somewhere to hide your credit card statements!

Best two sentences I've read on a blog this year I think.

Just set the 'BBQ terrace' up on our roof-top - it's absolutely superb. I'll let you know what I think of the Champagne.

Max,

Thank you!

Andrew,

Look forward to reading about the BBQ and the wine.
