Absent friends

After almost two years of blogging, one of the notable things is the rate of attrition. Bloggers come and by and large they go. I suppose it's a question of priorities. Is it worth spending hours over a keyboard, when there is so much life to be lived?

A toast - To absent friends!

Old Bastards

Wine blog with no name

Lets hope they are still drinking. . .

* The demise of wine blog watch is especially sad, there is now no good way (I've found) to discover new wine blogs.

I was just updating a definative list of food and wine blogers and got to about 210 with only about half active. I also was surprised how few Australians blog about wine comapred with thenumbers who blog food. Why is this? Is it a confidence thing with wine or are they to sozzled to bother?

Vinosense seems to have died a death too - one way or another.
Love the photo Eduardo. Nice touch.

And Pinot Island...

I think we can also add pinotnoirista to the blogs in death watch.

Ed,

Interesting question. Perhaps we Aussies are less keen on mounting the soap box? From my non biased point of view I think the handful of active ones we have are all quality and some of the better ones in the world (winoroma, acehighwines, world of wine, tinto y blanco, full pour).

GW,

Thanks.
Its a fishing harbour in Hong Kong, from my trip in November. No families live on the boats anymore - they are all to rich and live in condos. . .

Didn't Wine Blog with No Name just move (i.e. they're Not Dead Yet!). Check the vital signs again...

Ah, at least the wine blog with no name has died and gone to a better place (Full Pour). :)

It is interesting and, at times, sad to watch the blogs come and go. As you say, though, the local contingent seems to be a good bunch with interesting stuff to say, and I feel quite proud to be part of it in some way.

Why did they die?...did they stop drinking..?
I started my blog primarily to get me back to writing tasting notes again..and digital camera and blog made it easy.
If someone reads it...then that is a plus...
So..you can expect me to have my blog until the last bottle is drunk...'DON'T GIVE UP ON A GOOD THING'..is a soul song..applies here

Joe and Julian,

Right you are. I was going to mention how the blog with no name had morphed into something bigger and better.

Barry,

I should hope you never stop! Like you, I'd like to think that as long as I'm still drinking I will still have the urge to upload tasting notes to wino sapien.

Barry, Ed - I just hope the marketing guys come up with those elderly-friendly screw tops...

Edward

I love the photo of Cheung Chau. I just finished a post on lunch at a seafood restaurant there. Last time we went we were extremely lucky with the weather and got a pollution free day with the most superb views of the surrounding islands. It can be a magical place.

Cheers
Andrew

Here is the new better home of the blog with no name: Full pour.

Ed,
I would be very much interested in your list of wine and food blogs. I would use it for a public ranking of such sites. The directory of wine websites is already here but will be updated. I am preparing the directory of food blogs.
