Leeuwin Estate Art Series Chardonnay 2005
Margaret River, Western Australia. 14.5%. Screwcap. Approx $A80.
Extravagant, overt and totally in keeping with the marque. Just as most Australian chardonnay seeks to become more streamlined and tight, the Leeuwin is unashamed to show its curves and generous proportions. Lovely grilled peach and pineapple with richness, cream and a trace of sweetness. The texture is superb, silky and smooth, whilst the acidity tingles and ripples from start to finish.
I like it as much as the 02 and 04, and perhaps a touch more than the 99.
Excellent.
95.

95 points. It seems one of those ones where it becomes hard to justify spending approximately $100 on a wine that only fetches 95 points, when so much of its competition (particularly
in the reds), which are fetching this much even in the $25-30 range.
Phil,
The LEAS is worth every cent in my opinion. Pedigree and consistant quality.
Well written review. Did you ever have the '03? We have it for C$94 (I have been eyeing it, so your note sparked my curiousity).
Joe,
Thanks. I wanted to try to fit in the term - this wine possess zaftig*. May be next time.
*A yiddish word suggesting that something has both juice and body.
The 03 is excellent from what I hear, though the only recent vintage (from the last 6) that I have not tried.
Leeuwin Estate Art Series Chardonnay 2005 is incredible. I had a taste last night and it was just i think out of this world!
