At increasingly greater intervals, and with increasing difficulty, I periodically squeeze into my tuxedo trousers. The most recent occasion was yesterday, for the wedding of two old and dear friends.
Brookland Valley Verse 1 Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2007. Screwcap. 12.5%. Acid filled (my teeth still hurt) with notable spritzig. Fresh, lively and less overtly herbal and grassy than many similar blends. 86. Good.
Opes Prime. The latest victim of the credit crunch. "There are no reports of devil worshipping yet but don't be surprised."
Why is this nestled between two wine tasting notes? Opes, the financial services company, is apparently (if you watch TV) pronounced Opus. Could the name of the company, now in administration, be an unfortunate play on Opus One? Further reading 1, 2,
Brookland Valley Verse 1 Shiraz 2006. Screwcap. 14%. Competent, commercial and quite charming. Clean and 'chocoberry' laden, this is well structured and very approachable. 90. Very good.
