Giaconda Nantua Les Deux 2006
Beechworth, Victoria, Australia. Chardonnay, Roussane. 13.9% alcohol. Screwcap. Approx $A45
A delicious marriage of two seemingly unsuited individuals. One floral and unctuous and the other more common and predictable.
The initial impression is butterscotch, pineapple, stonefruit and cream, but there is also a more distinctive note of blossom and musk. In the mouth too, the Roussanne is assertive, gripping and pleasingly phenolic, which is a counter to the main theme of lush creaminess and lovely juicy acidity. A very interesting and satisfying wine.
Very good - excellent.
