Long Flat Destinations Yarra Valley Pinot noir 2007

Yarra Valley, Victoria, Australia. Pinot noir. 13.5%. Screwcap. Approx $A10.

At $10 a bottle it's hard to complain, though it's also hard to commend.

Crimson, simple and attenuated. This is correct, but almost homeopathic in it's intensity. Stewed berries and a faint hint of spice, this has the right shape and emphasis, but lacks vigour and dimension.

Now.

Ten bucks - markets getting you down? What grape is the Yarra Valley best known for?

A touch of that paint thinner may help in the mix....

or a bowl of bile with it...

See how easy life can be with a sensible person around...

Joe,

Trying not to think of the gloom in the markets at the moment! This was a bottle from a friend. . .

The Yarra is very close to Melbourne, Australia's second biggest city, and it is well supported by local critics and drinkers. Best known for chardonnay, pinot noir, but also some well made shiraz.

Barry,

I'm not sure I will live down the rim of bile / paint thinner comment, unless of course I can come up with some equally odd descriptor!
