Kalleske JMK Shiraz VP 2006
Greenock, Barossa, South Australia. Fortified. Shiraz. 19%. Cork. Approx $A28 for a stumpy half bottle. JMK = John Malcolm Kalleske.
A wine that is both pyknotic and enveloping. From the start it is able to clearly evoke the image of shriveled shiraz berries, laden with sugar, patiently waiting to be picked as they soak up the goodness of the warm Barossa sun. Tasting and smelling of chocolate and raisins, this is powerful and concentrated, with layers of sweet softness and creamy vanilla. Possessing the heat and roundness of a warm afternoon, this wine is dangerously disarming.
Very good - excellent.

Pyknotic. Sent me to what once was my dictionary and now is wikipedia. Nice indeed.
Its such an entertaining bottle that - when I first saw it online I thought someone had overly stretched the image - but low and behold, it looks like that naturally.
Doign good things at Kalleske
pyknotic?
how about karyorrhectic?
It's hard not the throw in the occasional medical/biological word. Plus pyknotic seemed very apt with the nature of the wine (extended hang time, shriveled berries etc).
Andrew - I thought the exact thing when I first saw the bottle images. This bottle reminds me most of a patent medicine bottle.
