OTT Fass 4 Grüner veltliner 2007

Weingut Bernard OTT. Wagram, Austria. 12.5%. Screwcap. Approx $A40.

One of the most notable things about this wine (besides the harmless tartrate crystals), is the lovely texture. Though a dry wine of 12.5%, this feels more voluptuous. It's silky and essence like and there is an impression of weight and flesh, without heaviness. It is zippy and spice laden with plenty of grip and length.

Very good - excellent.

You sure like your Gruner. It was something of a media darling in the UK when I left, and it's incredible that Austria has been able to reverse its fortunes in such a short space of time.

You've just inspired me to go and buy some. And an ice cream

Rawshank,

It's still a relatively uncommon thing in Australia, but there is a notable increase in quantum and quality of the offering, in the last 2 years. It's worth a look, I think it is imported by Negociants.

Nice bottle shot. What inspired this angle?

Jeff,

A case of spin the bottle as I tried to find an interesting angle. . .

BTW Edward I've finally done away with the Northcote Red Star and continued with the far more subtle 'Northcote Grand Jury' instead. I wouldn't normally make a fuss about this, but some cheeky bugger has stolen my old URL and started their own blog. Buggers.

Ta, Slurman
