I've been spending my nights of relative vinous and calorific deprivation reading and playing chess. In particular, I've started a remarkably well written book. Embracing the Wide Sky by Daniel Tammat. It's ambitious in its scope, and given the complexity of the subject (the brain and how it works), surprisingly accessible.

A dry spell

Great post!
Ah yes, 30-something is wearing thin. Not sure if a certain number was impetus for my recent enthusiasm for the swim/bike/run... Note that losing the fat means getting drunk quicker. To ponder: the supposed "benefits" of wine disappear for the fit male. Good luck with it, and watch the weight - you will pound the crap out of your knees
Steven and Joe,
Losing fat and getting drunk faster sounds like something that requires further research! (? loss of tolerance or just less fat to soak up the alcohol). Joe - I've been listening to wine podcasts while I run, so not all is lost!
Hi Ed - two hypotheses - either you are much more tired after all the training, or you have less fat to soak up the alcohol - sounds like we need a controlled experiment...
