Poderi Aldo Conterno Masante Langhe Dolcetto 2007

Langhe, Piedmonte, Italy. Dolcetto. 13.5%. Cork (tight and hard to remove). Approx $A45.

Matured in stainless steel, there is nothing blurred or ill-defined about this. It is sharp and acid laden, primary and quite delicious. Scented with rose petal, juniper berries and dried herbs (aniseed and bay leaf). While on the tongue, it is flavoursome and chewy, with a burst of blueberry and juniper. Bravo.

Very very good.

Gotta love a good Dolcetto - so versatile!

Griff,

I'm beginning to wonder if I got this from the Re store too. . .

Shea,

I'm starting to see the light. The last two bottles, both from 07 have been terrific. Bright, alive and full of charm and muscle.

'07 seems a lovely vintage for Dolcetto. No idea if they're available down your way, Edward, but look for anything from GD Vajra (from Barolo) or Anna-Maria Abbona (Dogliani) in particular.

David,

I've added the names to my ipod and will watch out for them. Will 07 be as kind to Barolo?

Succumbed to temptation in the Re store sale this week on this one. I found your descriptors apt (if somewhat more literary than what I could conjure) for this wine and it really was quite delicious the first night. Top shelf! The remains on the second night were unfortunately somewhat hard and a touch metallic. Drink early and fresh I reckon.

cheers
